NATIONAL COUNCIL AND REGIONAL AMBASSADORS
The AGO is seeking strong, visionary leaders to serve on the National Council and Council of Regional Ambassadors for terms beginning in July 2027. The National Nominating Committee is currently accepting applications through Friday, May 29, 2026 for the following positions:
Secretary (three-year term)
The Secretary keeps, or causes to be kept, lists of members in their respective classes; holds custody of the records of the Guild and the corporate seal; and is responsible for recording the proceedings of the meetings of the Guild and the National Council.
(One) Councillor-at-Large (three-year term)
Three Councillors-at-Large are elected by the AGO membership and may be assigned responsibilities by the National Council, including overseeing activities of the Guild such as education, conventions, membership, competitions, and new music.
Councillor for Young Organists (three-year term)
The Councillor for Young Organists is elected by the AGO membership to represent the professional needs and interests of members under the age of 30, and serves as director of the AGO Young Organists Committee (AGOYO).
Regional Ambassadors – Mid-Atlantic and North Central Regions (three-year terms)
Regional Ambassadors (formerly Regional Councillors) are elected by the membership of each AGO Region to which they are assigned, and supervise and coordinate the work of the Guild in each Region. The Regional Ambassadors meet together as a Council and elect a Chair who serves, ex officio , as a voting member of National Council.

If you wish to suggest a colleague(s) for consideration, submit their name(s) and proposed position(s) to [email protected] and the link to the applicant information form will be provided to them.
The National Nominating Committee will consider all submissions and prepare a slate of candidates that will be announced on August 1. Write-in candidates will be accepted by petition until Sept. 1.

New AGO Elections Procedures
Beginning in 2025, elections are held on an annual basis, following the schedule for staggered terms approved by the membership in 2024 and enacted in the AGO Bylaws. This year, the Secretary, one Councillor-at-Large, and the Councillor for Young Organists will be elected to the National Council for full three-year terms.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional Ambassador and the North Central Regional Ambassador will both be elected to three-year terms to serve on the Council for Regional Ambassadors. (See charts below.)
The 2026 election will be conducted in November. The AGO Bylaws are posted at AGOhq.org in the Document Center.
